Villa Carlina, nestled below Monte Pisano on the southern outskirts of Lucca, is an historic 18th-century Lucchese villa set within a stunning estate of terraced olive groves, elegant Italian gardens, and pine forest hilltops with castle ruins. Panoramic views stretch across Lucca and its historic aqueduct, while a pretty walled garden provides a peaceful setting for the swimming pool and summerhouse with workout room.

The villa’s unique interiors are elegantly furnished with style and charm, offering twelve frescoed guestrooms, all with ensuite facilities, for up to 22 guests. Three living rooms, a study area, a billiard room, a grand banquet room, and the shaded retreat of an arched loggia give larger groups plenty of space to gather together or enjoy quiet moments of privacy.

Monte Pisano is historically noted as one of the main battlegrounds in the centuries-long wars between Pisa and Lucca, beginning around the year 1000 and continuing for over 400 years. The villa itself was built as the summer residence of a family of noble merchants, and in 1692 hosted a visiting Danish prince during his Grand Tour of Italy. For many years, the fertile estate—complete with worker housing, a chapel, stables and an olive press—was used for the cultivation of rare flowers, and later became known as the residence of the inventor credited with developing the combustion engine in 1853.
