Villa Gardena
Villa Gardena is a rare property on the Côte d’Azur, combining eco-conscious design with a deep connection to the region’s rich history.
As the only private residence on the island of Sainte-Marguerite, the estate occupies a 13th-century walled property accessible by boat. Sainte-Marguerite has long attracted Europe’s elite, with past visitors including Louis XIV and the 15th-century Dukes of Guise. History lingers in every corner: the island is said to have held the mysterious Man in the Iron Mask, rumored to be Louis XIV’s brother, and legend has it that Napoleon once grazed his horses here while cannonballs were readied nearby.
The property spans three and a half acres and comprises 12 bedrooms across six buildings: the Governor’s House, three cottages, a guest house, and the old fortress tower. At Villa Gardena, guests can enjoy their vacation days exploring the gardens, wine cellar, and library.
The interiors combine natural materials such as rock flooring, white and grey marble, and teak and beige wood. Its clean-lined architecture reflects the style of the South of France, yet the estate’s historical and cultural significance gives it a character that goes far beyond aesthetics.
