Corfu is a Greek island in the northwest part of the country, located in the Ionian Sea. It is situated off the northwest coast of mainland Greece, near the border with Albania.
The best time to visit Corfu is generally from May to September, offering warm weather and plenty of sunshine for beach activities. For a balance of pleasant weather and fewer crowds, May, June, and September are ideal, as they provide warm temperatures suitable for both sightseeing and swimming without the intense heat and peak crowds of July and August.
Corfu is known for its lush, green landscapes and beautiful beaches, a unique Venetian-influenced architecture in its UNESCO World Heritage Old Town, and a rich history shaped by Venetian, French, and British rule. It is also famous for its traditional villages, local products like kumquats, and cultural traditions.
In Corfu, you should try traditional dishes like Pastitsada (rooster or veal in a spicy red sauce with pasta), Sofrito (veal cooked in a white wine and garlic sauce), and Bourdeto (a spicy fish stew). Don’t miss local specialties such as nouboulo ham and various kumquat products like liqueur and sweets. You can also enjoy classic Greek street food like souvlaki and dips like tzatziki.
